Costa Rica Days 12-13
DSan José International Airport, San José, CR @ 10:10AM, Jan 14
DAY 12
Yesterday was Friday the 13th. We ate our final breakfast at El Gato Negro,
the hotel’s restaurant, which translates to “The Black Cat.” Our bus also
passed under several ladders on the way out as it happened to be the day of
Manuel Antonio’s annual giant ladder parade. Gracias a Dios, nothing...

Woke up this morning and first thing on our mind was sunblock! Time to get
slathered up for our catamaran trip! We ate breakfast at El Gato Negro, the
hotel restaurant, again. Jieling had the continental breakfast again, but I
was feeling adventurous so I opted for the American Breakfast, which
consisted of eggs, toast, potatoes, and...

DAY 9
This morning we woke up early for our road trip to Manuel Antonio. We got
our things together, then had a breakfast at the Monteverde Country Lodge.
It was a humble little buffet consisting of rice and beans, scrambled eggs,
fruits, toast, and bacon wrapped chicken fried steak (just kidding.) At
8:30 we boarded our bus...

Hola, Steven here. This morning we got up twenty minutes late so we
had to scarf our breakfast down. We had a typical Costa Rican
breakfast from the hotel, which consisted of rice, beans, plantains,
cheese, and fried eggs. We got to our bus just in time. Onward to the
next place!
We took a short trip to the Don Juan coffee...
Costa Rica day 7
Monteverde Country Lodge, Monteverde, CR @ 9:56pm, Jan 8
We spent the majority of today traveling from Arenal to Monteverde, which
is extremely high up altitude-wise and also very windy. Steven and I
essentially spent the day napping on the bus, only waking up right before
our designated bathroom and lunch stops.
Our first stop was at a small town outside Arenal - the volcano was still...
Costa Rica day 6
Casa Luna Hotel, La Fortuna, CR @ 8:13pm, Jan 7
What a day! Woke up this morning sans alarm at 7am-ish, but laid around
until practically 9 and had breakfast in the hotel. All of the food we’ve
had in the hotels have been pretty good, way above expectations and much
better than the usual continental breakfasts you get in US hotels. Then
Steven and I lounged around, hung out on our...
Costa Rica day 5
Casa Luna Hotel, near La Fortuna, Arenal, CR @ 10:14pm, Jan 6
We spent almost the whole day traveling on the bus today, which was
pretty terrible for me because I get car sick pretty easily and
especially along long and windy roads. But the stops were all quite
nice. We made our way first from San Jose to Sarchi, this little
artisan town where they make and decorate these very traditional...
Costa Rica day 4
Radisson Europa Hotel, San Jose, CR @ 6:41pm, Jan 5
Back in San Jose! I was definitely ready to leave Tortuguero because
everything was just so damn moist, haha. It was beautiful, no doubt,
but it’s also really nice to be in a completely enclosed hotel were
nothing smells like wet towel and you can’t hear the sound of rain
hitting the roof. Hooray!
We spent the morning...
Costa Rica day 3
Evergreen Hotel, Tortuguero, CR @ 9:31pm, Jan 4
It is pouring rain outside today! There’s something really beautiful
about witnessing rain in the tropics though—all the plant life really
comes alive, vibrant colors and all. Late last night, it was raining
so hard that I woke up several times, but other than that we both
slept well.
We went on a day hike through Tortuguero...

Steven is grossed out by the bathroom situation, because it’s required
that you throw used toilet paper into the trash can (vs flushing it).
He then launched into the story of his science camp experience in 5th
grade, when apparently the bathrooms there were SO dirty that he
refused to go #2 for an ENTIRE WEEK. Insane!!! Lol
Today was...
Costa Rica day 1
Radisson Europa Hotel & Conference Center, San Jose, CR @ 7:14pm, Jan 2
We have landed! And spent our first few hours here searching for the
restaurant that was recommended by the hotel. It ended up being
delish, but on the expensive side; Steven and I both got combo dishes
that let us try a variety of meats, seafood, and side dishes. We also
had a pitcher of really good sangria, which...
Costs Rica day 1 - almost there!
Aboard Continental B737, 30 min till arrival @ 2:06pm NYC time
Am feeling quite refreshed, despite the uncomfortableness of sleeping
in an aisle seat. I am so excited!! We have our airport to hotel
transfer all set up and are planning to forage for food after we set
our stuff down at the hotel. Steven is feeling grumpy because he
hasn’t been able to sleep as well as I have been. I am...
Costa Rica day 1 - not out of the country yet
Newark International Airport, New Jersey @ 6:27am, Jan 2
We just arrived at the airport and are having some Mickey d’s for breakfast. I love the sausage mcgriddles! The doughy pancake-maple syrup bun is the best! Steven likes the egg mcmuffin more but honestly, mcgriddles bun »> English muffins. Sigh
Having stayed up all night is taking its toll on our bodies, even though I...
